What the price covers

A standard 7kW home charger fitted by an approved installer costs £900 to £1,400. That covers the unit, up to about 10 metres of cable, the isolator and the labour.

Longer cable runs, garages away from the house and older consumer units all add cost. If the board needs replacing, add £450 to £900.

22kW chargers only work if you have a three-phase supply, which most homes do not. For everyday charging, 7kW fills a typical EV overnight.

Tethered or untethered

Tethered units come with the cable attached, which is more convenient day to day. Untethered units cost slightly less, keep the wall tidier and work with any cable type.

Both need a certified installer and the work must be notified under Part P of the Building Regulations. Your installer handles that.

A 7kW home charger typically costs £900–£1,400 supplied and fitted in 2026. Long cable runs push that to £1,800, and a 22kW three-phase unit costs £1,400–£2,200.
