What is an air source heat pump?
An air source heat pump sits outside your home and absorbs heat from the outside air, then uses a compressor and a small amount of electricity to raise that heat to a useful temperature for your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water.
Because it moves heat rather than burning fuel, a well-designed system delivers around 3 to 4 units of heat for every unit of electricity — far more efficient than a gas boiler, and with no on-site emissions.
Typical installed cost is £10,000–£14,000 before the grant, so most households pay roughly £3,000–£6,500 after the £7,500 deduction.
