ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation 4) is a UK government scheme funded by the largest energy suppliers. It pays for energy-efficiency upgrades — including free boilers, insulation and heating controls — for low-income and vulnerable households until March 2026.
Typically: homeowners or private tenants who receive qualifying benefits (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income Support, ESA, Child Tax Credit and others), live in a property rated D–G on EPC, and have a boiler that is broken or over 10–15 years old.
For most fully-eligible households, yes. In some cases (e.g. 'LA Flex' route or partial qualification) a small contribution of £100–£500 may be required. Your installer will confirm before any work begins.
ECO4 boilers must be A-rated and from approved brands such as Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal or Baxi. The installer chooses the best fit for your home and pipework.
